Minnesota Angus Mission Statement...

“The Minnesota Angus Association was founded on the principals of ‘members helping members’ and to promote the breed through the production of Angus cattle with improved genetics. It is also our desire to foster cooperation and communication with the seed stock and commercial producers throughout the state. The future of this organization lies within our youth and we will work to provide leadership and encouragement to our Junior Angus membership.”

2023 MN Angus Breeder of the Year

2023 MN Angus Breeder of the Year

My dreams of raising cattle already started at a very young age. Helping uncles and working summer jobs during high school kept that alive. After marriage, Carla’s uncles had about 120 crossbred cows and having winters off from my construction job I helped them every winter and spring feeding and calving. In 1995 I purchased my first registered heifers and we built our herd from there. In the early 2000’s we sold a few bulls private treaty and just kept growing. In 2006 we decided to have our first sale. There were several people who were a huge part of our operation. I met John Tyner at a sale and we started to communicate back and forth. John was my main mentor threw the earlier years and hung with us till he retired from his consulting business. John passed this fall. The late Terry Robinson, Vern Frey and Craig Conover, along with the rest of our sales staff were a huge part of our marketing program. Craig was our auctioneer in the early years and after his retirement Dustin Carter took over the auctioneering. They had much good advice to give. We just slowly kept growing. I quit my construction job in 2012 and was full time in the angus business. Angus cattle were very good to us. Our main goal with the cattle was calving ease, maternal and above average carcass. We never pushed extremes. We had a very good following. But it did not come easy. I always believed in honesty and stood behind our product. Our herd was mainly built on Krebs Genetics in the early years and Woodhill, Sitz and Connealy in the later years. We always belonged to the local state and national organizations. In the Fall of 2022, we sold our whole herd to the Tim Nolte family. I think they will do well. They forgot more about cattle than I ever knew. I will stay involved as much as they want. They will take our sale date and use the same sale staff. I look forward to their sale which will be the 3rd Sunday of March and I am sure some of our customers will follow the cows. It is really an honor to get this award and we felt very blessed to have had the opportunity.
